V.C. HONOURED.
(Press Assn.) liOTOItUA. Nov. 12, “1 did not win the V.C. It was given to me on behalf of the men,” stated Sergeant A. C. Hulme, Y.C., at a civicreception held at Rotorua this afternoon when presentations in recognition of his services overseas were made by the citizens of the town. Sergeant Hulme paid a tribute to the support ol his comrades, and especially the members of the Maori Battalion. He would be aide to say at all times that the people at home were carrying on in their efforts to assists those overseas. Presentations were made by the Mayoress (Mrs !I. D. Danse.v) of a Maori carved smoker’s stand, a set of pipes, and a wallet. At a time when some were avoiding their obligations it was a pleasure to meet a man who had forgotten self-interest and personal safety, stated Mr R. H. Jones (president' of the Rotorua branch of the R S.A.) Sergeant Hulme has spent some months in the Rotorua Sanatorium for treatment to a wounded shoulder received in Crete.
