The selection of Air L. G. Lowry, ALP. for Otaki, as the representative of the Government party to visit Great Britain at the invitation of the United Kingdom branch ol the Empire Parliamentary Association, was made at a caucus ol the Parliamentary Labour Party in Wellington yesterday. Two prominent members of Parliament, one Government and one Opposition, have been invited by the association to visit the United Kingdom to inspect the war conditions there, to meet their Parliamentary colleagues at ANestmilister, and to discuss with them questions of mutual interest just as the Parliamentary delegation from Canada is doing in 'the United Kingdom at the present time. Air Lowry is a returned soldier of the Great AN ar and a member of the AA'ar Council. The Opposition member is Mr S. G. Hoi land.

, Evacuated from Japan at the end of September with other British nationals at the request of the British Embassv, Lieut.-Colonel Torcle Lees, Hoy a I Marines (retired), has reached New Zealand, where he intends to live Colonel Lees has a remarkably vaneu service and civilian record and has spent most ol his lile in Japan since the last war. Colonel Lees was 21 years in the Koval Navy and on his retirement held* his present rank in the Koval Marines. He . took part in Shaekleton's Antarctic Expedition in 1914-16 and in 1917 lie was seconded to the Royal Air Force. Jlc was the first British officer to make a parachute landing and conducted research in this branch. At the end of the war he went to the East to instruct in parachute work in tiie Japanese naval air force, holding the rank of lieutenantcommander in the Imperial Japanese Navy. After about IS months in tins capacity Colonel Lees returned to civilian litc but remained in Japan as teacher of English in Japanese high schools and universities. Ton years ago ho married a Japanese wife who, with their family, has accompanied him to New Zealand.
