'l'he race for the Canterbury Cup provided plenty of thrills in the last furlong, four horses going past the |>ost almost in line, with Wardress gaining the victory by half a head from Lamhourn, who looked a little unlucky. Salutation won the Oaks Stakes in a close finish from Yin d’llonneur, who was cut back at the start and lost several lengths. Tho finish for the Jockey Club Handicap was exciting. Wild Fox coming with a late run to win by a head and give (lie Chokebore Lodge stablo its eleventh win in the race. She ran a track record and finished half a head in front of Not Out and Hearth, who deiul-hcated. There was an unfortunate accident in the opening event, the Port Cooper Hurdles. The. Wrecker and Recollection falling at the second fence in front of the stands. The Wrecker broke his back and was destroyed, and bis rider, L. Gough, was rolled on by Recollection and badly injured, lie was taken 'to hospital and in the evening iiis condition was reported to be serious.
