EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD.” OCTOBER 13, 1911. The steamer Macleav, en route from Sydney to Clarence River, had struck a rock in a fog and had sunk. Only two of the crew had landed on Broughton Island and it was feared the others had pel-idled. The Balkan countries had offered to go to the assistance of Bulgaria if she were attacked by Turkey. It was reported on Friday that Turkey was massing troops in Salonika. * According to a London message about 850 English men and women were to leave for New Zealand before Christmas. They were mostly assisted emigrants. Shooting and rioting were still continuin’' around Wuchang.
