POST OFFICE RELIEF FUND
The concert presented recently by the pupils of the Palmerston North Intermediate School was repeated in the’ Opera House on Saturday night in aid ol the British Post Office Relief Fund, and again there was a very large attendance. The first half of the programme consisted of the following numbers: Combined choir, National Anthem, ‘‘Rolling Down to Rio,” and “To a Wild Rose”; recitation, Betty Trask, “Little Scottish Martyrs”; action song, girls, “The Little Witches”; vocal solo, Ngaire Cocks, “i’ll AValk Beside You”; play, members of the dramatic class, “Five Girls and a Ghost”; tap dance, Fay Rees; “Awkward Squad,” boys and girls; double quartette, hoys of the musicclub; verse-speaking choir, “The Fair”; character sketch, Beth Richardson, “Miss Paggleby’s Party” ; band items, boys and girls from the orchestral club, “Our Boys,” “Slumberland” ; girls’ choir, “My Johnnie AVas a Shoemaker” and “Cradle Song.” The second half comprised a spectacular victory pageant, in which were presented the national songs and dances of Britain and tier Allies. At the conclusion of the programme Mr AV. J. Minoguc, Chief Postmaster, said postal workers at Home had suffered considerably as a result of the war, and their confreres in New Zealand thought they should do something in the way of sending relief. The local committee was indebted to the principal, staff, and children of the Intermediate School for staging a repeat performance of the concert, and as a result of the excellent response of the public the relief fund would be considerably benefited. Mr Minogue also thanked Messrs Collinson and Cunniiighamc, Ltd., and the staff of the Opera House for help they had given gratuitously.
