Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report: A large repi c.icnlalivc offering approximately 3500 head of cattle wore yarded, comprising the annua] draft on account of local settlers. The quality was well up to the standard of recent years, the cattle coming forward in excellent order and condition considering, the wet conditions experienced throughout the winter. Despite the wet conditions of our heavy grazingcountry, competition was free from the commencement of the auction, the 4-year-old yullocks selling under animated competition at prices ranging from £lO 4s to £ll. with a few outstanding pens of fat and forward bullocks selling from £ll 10s to £l2. In comparison with last year’* prices, bullocks were firmer by 10s to 15s a head. Three-year-old steers were also keenly competed for, the majority of the lines selling from £8 15s to £9 10s. Upcountry buyers operated freely on tho yearling and 2-year-old steers, tho best of the two-year-olds selling from £7 to £B, top yearlings from £6 to £7 3s, and average lines from £5 to £5 15s. Taranaki and Wanganui buyers operated freely on all fattening lines of cqws and heifers, and secured the bulk of tho offering. Buyers were also in evidence for breeding heifers, the lop lines selling from £7 to £7 13s.
