MAORI MAR SERVICE.

(Press Assn.) WIL4NGAREI, Aug. 2. An inspiring incident indicating that the lighting spirit still animates the Ngapuliis occurred at a tribal meeting at Northern llokianga yesterday. A Maori recruiting officer paid a visit to Panguru. where a large assemblage of young Ngapuhis was gathered. An old chief spoke of the valour shown by the Maoris in the present war and expressed the opinion that nothing in the shape of conscription would he needed to maintain the Maori Battalion. This faith in the young mey was l)orne out when a queue was formed and every youth at the gathering signed up, those of military ago for service overseas and the younger ones for Territorial service.
