WEDDINGS.

CUNNING—ELLIOTT. .St. Patrick's Church, Broadway Avenue, Palmerston North, was the .scene of a wry pretty wedding on Saturday, -Inly 12. when Heni Joyce, onlv daughter of Mr and Mrs J. R. Elliott, ol' 22 Colombo Street. Palmerston North, was united in the Loritls of holy matrimony to John l''rancis, eldest son of Mrs K. Cunning and the late Mr J. Cunning, of Colerainu, Northern Ireland. Very Rev. Monsignor MacMunus officiated ;it the ccleliration of j Nuptial Mass. White roses, pink blossom, | and pink and white camellias artistically adorned the altar, and on the news were white bows. '•The decorations were the work of the Children of Mary. Escorted by her father, the bride presented a charming picture as she entered the church to the .-trains of the Wedding ' March, being gowned in a bouffant frock 'of white taffeta faille, relieved with silver loops. The bodice was ruched at the neckline and aliove the torso waistline, which was ali-o outlined with silver braiding. The skirt, which was full and circular. formed a slight train. The half-length veil of bridal tulle, pleated at the back to form a halo, was worn from a circlet of orange blossom and lily of the valley. Her exquisite shower bouquet of hellebores. Japanese azaleas, freczias, and lily of the valley; intermingled with maidenhair fern, completed a dainty toilette. In attendance was Miss Dorothea Reid. of Wellington, who added a graceful touch in her frock of hydrangea blue taffeta. The gown was fashioned on the same lines as the bride's, the sleeves and torso l>eing braided in a deeper shade of blue. The full skirt was braided in a scroll design for a depth of about six inches around the hemline. She wore a silver mesh Juliet cap and carried a posy of cyclamen flowers. The duties of best man were, carried out by Mr J. o'Conncll, of Palmerston North. Miss Cora Bartlctt presided at the organ, and at the conclusion of Nuptial Mass Miss Iris Sutherland gave a delightful rendering of "I'll Walk Beside You." At the. reception, which wa,s held at the residence of I lie bride's parents, Mr and Mrs J. R. Elliott; welcomed al>out fifty gue«ts, Mrs Elliott, wearing a model frock of glade j, r reen, over which she wore, a coat of Indian penny relieved with a spray of golden frcczias. The usual toasts were honoured and numerous congratulatory messages read, including a cablegram from the bridegroom's mother. While the bride cut the cake, Miss Sutherland again sang, her appropriate choice bein<;, "Bclievo Me If All Those Endearing Young ('harms." Ivatcr. Mr and Mrs Cunning left for a motor tour, amid showers of confetti. The bride chose for travelling a smart coat of grey novelty astrakhan, which was worn over a frock of fairway green. A grey hat and grey gloves were- worn, and black accessories completed her outfit. O'DEA—QU.IRKE. The marriage look place on Wednesday, Juno 25. at St. Patrick's Church, Pa'lmcrston North, of Joan Imclda, second daughter of Mr T. Quirkc, and the late Mrs Quirkc, of Palmerston North, to Bernard James, eldest son of Mr and Mrs T. O'Dca, of Napier Road, Palmerston North. Father P. J. Herlihy, of Karon, performed the ceremony, and celebrated Nuptial Mass. The organist was Miss Cora Bartlctt, and Mass was suiifj by a boys' choir, which gave also a very fine rendering of "Ave Maria" and "0 Josu Mi" during the signing of the register. 'the bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a frock of ivory moire talfeta, the lace collar being fastened by an old cameo brooch which bad belonged to her mother. The beautiful veil had been embroidered by the bride's aunt, a Sister of the Convent of Mercy. Hill Street, Wellington, who, some years previously, had embroidered monograms on presentation rugs for members of the Royal Family visiting New Zeular.-J The bride was attended by her sisters, Kathleen and Eileen, who were dics.ed alike in blue silk taffeta, with shoulderlength veils, and long while kid gloves. They carried blic and white bouquets In attendance as best man and groomsman respectively, were Messrs Tom OT)"a and Bernard O'JJoa, formerly of Wellington. Later in the morning there was a reception at the Rosco lounge, where the gjuests were received by the Misses Mary and Suzanne Quirke. agisted by Mrs T O'Pea. mother of the bridegroom. Before her wedding the bride was the guest of honour at several delightful parties, and was also the recipient of presentations from the Children of Mary Sodality, and from various departments of lbs Palmerston North Hospital, where she bad licen a incuioer of the ollice stall.
