That Mr G. L. Marshall, of Marlon, had been advised that another son, the second, had been killed in action was mentioned at a meeting in Auckland of a company of which he is a director. The chairman said Mr Marshall had eight sons, six Icing on active service. The meeting paid a silent tribute. — Press Association.
There passed away at Awalniri on Sunday, July 27, 1941, Mr Herbert William Lucas, at the ago of 37 years. He was the youngest son of the late Mr and Mrs George Lucas and had spent all his life at Awalniri. His passing came as a shock to his many friends. Mr Lucas’s marriage took place at Palmerston North to Miss Edith F. Albert, and to the widow and three children much sympathy has been extended. The funeral at the Sanson cemetery was conducted by Rev. J. W. Martin, Presbyterian minister, and many friends gathered to pay their respects.
