MINISTER REBUKED.

lIOAfE GUARD CO AfAI ANDERS. (Press Assn.) AUCKLAND, July 23. Tlie battalion commanders of the Home Guard in the Auckland area bold a meeting to consider the statement made by the Alinister of National Service (Air Semple) when speaking of the information provided last week by the Auckland district commander (Colonel Aldred, A 7 .D.) on the future of the organisation. The meeting adopted the following resolution: “That this meeting of. battalion commanders of the Home Guard in the Auckland area express their sympathy with Colonel Aldred in the unwarranted and ill-mannered attack made on him by the Alinister of National Service, and assure him of their continued loyalty and support in spite of the unsatisfactory conditions pertaining in the Home Guard under the Ministry of National Service.” In addition the meeting announced that it had decided to request guardsmen throughout the Auckland area to parade as usual pending more satisfactory arrangements being made for the administration of the Guard. The following statement lias been made by Colonel Aldred in regard to the criticism by Mr Semple: “In my anxiety to allay the growing dissatisfaction amongst Home Guardsmen regarding their future, it would appear that 1 inadvertently - disclosed certain information which General Young, Dominion commander, considers should have been regarded as confidential. This being so, I express regret. Until such time as the full details of the tufure policy are made known, I appeal to all guardsmen to carry out their training as wholeheartedly as heretofore. Tile issues at stake are too serious to allow personal feelings to enter into the matter.”

MINISTER COUNSELS PATIENCE. (Press Assn) AVELLINGTON, July 22. “To suggest I would do anything to injure the Home Guard is ridiculous,” said Air Semple, referring to the statements made at Auckland, which the Alinister said might lead people to believe that the remarks be (Mr Semple) made were not in the best interest of the Home Guard. The Alinister added that all he had done was to resent the publication of information given to Colonel Aldred in confidence. In publishing the statement that he did, Colonei Aldred had let down General Young and the Government. Air Semple said that so far as he was concerned the matter was closed. “I ask all Homo Guardsmen to be patient and wait until the official statement comes down.”
