INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL.
Mr J. A. Grant was-in the chair at a meeting of the Intermediate School Committee, last evening. The CityCouncil advised that it intended to paint a pedestrian crossing in front of the school in Ferguson Street. Mr G. Tremaine said that the council had decided to allocate only one pedestrian crossing to every school. Mr W. 11. Brown stated that tJie Automobile Association would lend all possible help when the crossing was marked On the motion of Mr Tremaine. Messrs Brown, Grant, and Plimmer were appointed a sub-committee to deal with the matter of employing additional temporary labour and to report to the next meeting. The committee are also to go into the matter of oiling the floors to counter the dust nuisance. A report on the grounds was given and it was decided to form a grounds committee consisting of Messrs Tremaine. Merton, Opie and Melville, with Mr Tremaine as chairman. Mr Tremaine reported that Mr P. Black had purchased a number of trees. The chairman intimated that a sub-committee had been set up by the finance committee to investigate the question of heating the school. ft was decided to make an application for a grant of £IOO to purchase books for the library. An application for a grant for the furnishing of the flat is also to be made. Mrs McPhail and Messrs Cunninghame, Hornblow, and Major, with Mr Cunninghame as chairman, were appointed a building committee. The visiting committee for .July is Messrs Brown, Merton and Hornblow. A letter of thanks is to be sent to the Cosmopolitan Club thanking it for its donation of 120 books. The headmaster (Mr J. C. Whibley) reported that the roll number was (580. The half-yearly surveys of classwork were in progress.
