CAMERA CLUE
POLICE ENTERPRISE
ALLEGED BURGLAR
One of the most extraordinary photographs ever taken is being circulated by New Zealand police in the search lor a burglar who blew open and robbed a post office safe last month. The photograph has also been sent to Australia, where its publication aroused great interest. Taken by an automatic camera spec-' ially set up by postal officials, the photograph shows a man, gloved and torch in hand, near the ,safe. The shutter was released by the breaking of a ray across 'the room, unknown to the alleged burglar, who, working with great care, left no other flues that might reveal his identity. Sydney detectives could not recall any Australian incident even remotely similar. Some Sydney firms have considered installing such photographic apparatus, but it has always been con-) sidered an uneconomic venture, when; the cost is considered beside the I chances of it ever being “fired.” “It is certainly a niillion-to-ono chance,” said a Sydney detective. At Fort Wayne (Indiana) this year a! series of robberies was cleared up' when a hidden camera photographed a 17-year-old youth.
