Miss I\. Birnio has returned to Palmerston North after visiting Rotorua and Taupo.
Mrs A. Graham, of Auckland, is staying with her parents, Mr and Mrs 11. B. Free, of Church Street. Mrs Graham’s husband is on active service.
Visitors welcomed at the Manawatu Women's Club yesterday were Al.esdames G. P. Wilson (Wellington), Allen Graham (Auckland), Hales, AlcEntec (Palmerston North) and Miss Ellerin (Palmerston North.)
The death has occurred, at the age of 93, of Mrs Anne Parsons, of Napier. Formerly Miss Anne Roberts, she clime to Now Zealand from Jersey, Channel Islands, when she was 18. Her husband, who was engaged in farming near Gisborne died more than GO years ago. There are five members of the family surviving.
There was a large attendance at an enjoyable dance at Aliss Gwen Gibbs’s studio last evening. Competition winners were Misses N. Luke, C. Rabojie, i>. Filers, Messrs J. Bell, J. Fea and R. Buchanan. Miss Gibbs, wearing black wool georgette, received the guests, assisted by .Misses L. Major and R. Procter.
'I lie -Manawatu Co-operative Women’s Guild met this week, when there was a very good attendance. The president (Mrs Robertson) welcomed a new member. Airs Johansen. It was decided to send a delegate to tin l national conference to bo held in Wellington, Airs Harrod being chosen by vote. Afternoon tea was served by Alesdames Christensen and Treweek. Airs V . 11. de Luen was welcomed back at yesterday’s meeting of the Manawatu Women’s Club by the president (.Mrs A. F, Alansford), who expressed pleasure that Airs de Luen’s daughter, Noreon, had made good progress in recovering from her illness in recent months. Alrs'J. R. Hughes, a niemher who had been absent due to illness, was also welcomed back.
The New Zealand R.S.A. conference yesterday passed a resolution stating that as it is impossible for members of the Army nursing services to purchase their necessary outfit with the grant allowed by the Government, representation, be made with a view to having the amount of the grant increased. It was stated that the grant to nurses was £-10. but it cost £7O for minimum outfitting requirements.
Airs C. Bierre, a member of the .Manawatu Women’s Club, was accorded a vote of sympathy in her illness, yesterday, on the motion oi Airs A. E. Alansford (president), who said that Airs Bierre was a very hard worker for the club Jt was decided to send flowers to her, with wishes for her speedy recovery. A letter oi sympathy is also to lx 1 sent to All's H. A. Fuller, in her illness, and to Airs W. Alouldey, in the illness of her husband. The Alanawalu Basketball Association is holfT-ng on Monday its twelfth King’s Birthday tournament. An advertisement appears in this issue.
