Tile Mayor RWr F. Purnclf) presided at a meeting of die Marlon Borough Council when the resignation of Mrs J. Allen, as caretaker of the women’s rest room, was received. The Uangitikei Comity Council advised that it had agreed to contribute £lO towards the Home- Guard Headquarters expenses at Marton. The Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants wrote asking the council to consider the question of providing a footpath from fhc subway, French Street, to the borough boundary on Golding’s Rine. and the matter was referred to (lie works committee. Crs Williams and Mogridge were authorised to interview the postmaster regarding the placing of seats outside the Rost Office. According to information given by the secretary (Mr C. ('. McDonald) at a meeting of the Marton Patriotic Committee the committee now has £2843 in hand towards the quota for the £1,000.000 All Purposes* Appeal, £3OOO.
