FLOOD DAMAGE.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—The recent flood damage in tile south-eastern corner of the city was entirely owing to the council’s omission to maintain and strengthen the stopbank consistent with the gradual rise of the riverbed and the increasing value of city properties. Groynes built in various parts of tlie river are necessarily anti-streamliners and intended to reduce the speed ot the current at a particular point to check erosion ; consequently, the depth and volume of water in "the river is correspondingly increased. With your permission, sir, the cause of the recent flood, so little understood, will bo the subject of another letter next week.—l am, etc., C. H. MASON, Palmerston North, 13/5/41.
