£IOOO IN NOTES MISSING

A special message from the “Manawatu Standard’s” Wellington correspondent which appeared on Monday reported that a mail robbery was believed to have taken place last week, a postal bag having been in*,sed on route between Wellington and the Palmerston North postal district. Further details have now been published in a Hawke’s Bay paper, which states: “A small fortune in crisp Reserve Bank of New Zealand notes has gone astray in transit between Wellington and Bulls, according to a notice circulated among Napier business houses. It is understood that the Post and Telegraph Department posted a package containing 100 Reserve Bank of New Zealand notes in denominations of £lO, at the Chief Post Office. Wellington, about 11 a.m. on May 5. The package was addressed to the Bank of New South Wales, Bulls, and so far has not reached the addressee The notes were new and are numbered f rom 156,401 to 156,500.”
