SERVICES RENDERED

CR SMITH HONOURED. Cr V. E. Smith, whose retirement as a member of the Feiiding Borough Council has been announced, was with Mrs Smith the guest of honour at an afternoon tea party arranged by tho Mayor and Mayoress (Mr T. L. Seddon and Mrs It. E. Scddon) to-day. Jn asking Mr Smith’s acceptance of a fountain pen suitably inscribed, the Mayor referred to the lengthy service rendered by him a.s a councillor and resident of Feiiding, in the interests of the town and also as the Borough Council’s representative on the Palmerston North Hospital Hoard. Many organisations had received the support of Air Smith, whose service with tho council had extended over a period of some 20 years. Air Smith further enjoyed the confidence of residents as their appointee on tho Hospital Board, lie having been a member for some 14 years, and had been re-elected unopposed for a further term. His public spiritedness was worthy of emulation. Air Seddon concluded by wishing Air and Airs Smith health and continued happiness. Airs Smith was presented with a pretty bouquet by the Alayorcss.

The gift to Afr Smith wp.s from the Afayor, councillors, and office staff of the Borough Council. Those present included the town clerk (Air C. H. Tate) and Airs Tate, the borough engineer (Air T. K. Hay) and Airs Hay. and councillors and their wives. Air W. IC. Cnrthew represented tho Foxton Harbour Board.
