Holmes, Trades Union delegate from Great Britain, that this country would make an excellent surprise packet for some hostile Power if Germany were victorious. Because of this he and his colleagues had changed their views. He himself —as did his colleagues—hated war with all his heart, but realised that it- was necessary to preserve all that they held dear.
