RUSSELL STREET SCHOOL

The monthly meeting of the Russell Street School Committee was held last week, those present being Messrs J. A. Grant (chairman), Christieson, McDowall. Walker, You.ng, Shackleton and Williams (secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Boniface and Hansen. The headmaster (Mr J. Connor) reported that the attendance was still affected by the epidemic of mumps but was improving. Lighting had been installed in the school grounds for Home Guard evening parades. The funds from No. Hi scheme for laying out the addition to the grounds had been exhausted but the work was still incomplete. Arrangements were made to complete some of the essential work out of school funds. Apart from this the grounds and buildings are in good order. Mr Grant was elected the committee’s representative on the Intermediate School Committee.
