(f‘ rnm Our Own Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Women's Institute was presided over by Mrs Baker, who welcomed back Mrs Patterson who had been confined to her home for several months. Mrs S. Walker was also welcomed as a new member. A resolution was passed that, flowers for floral work need not necessarily be from one’s own garden, hut the usual monthly flower must be from the competitor's garden The secretary (Mrs Mavhew) read a letter regarding the contents of soldiers’ parcels and later on an interesting and comprehensive report of the council meeting which she had attended a= delegate. Mrs Moray (treasurer) was appointed solo trustee for the institute Post Office account. An appeal was made for old white linen in an effort to help fill the quota of linen that Feilding is asked to obtain. Mrs Heayntt read a letter front a soldier in Fiji, who had received a parcel from the institute, thanking it for all the good things received. Mrs Baker introduced Colonel McCauley, of Feilding. who gave a highly interesting travel talk on the many countries he has visited, among them being England. Egypt. Africa. Stewart 'lsland and Australia. Two vocal solos were rendered by Mrs 11. Wilton. The competitions for June will be a nuf and raisin loaf and the best, flower in the garden. Mrs Miles will give a demonstration on Mtwork. A short debate will also he staged, the title being, “Is it, hotter to rear a child in the town nr country?” Those taking part will We Mesdames Blackler, P. Simpson. Portel, T.ambcrton and Mavhew. The hostesses' will tie Mesdames Camplin. Painter and V. Reid and Miss V. Bang. The monthly competitions resulted Posy, Mrs Thomas 1, Mrs Reid 2, Mrs Wilton 3: chrysanthemum. Mrs Robinson 1. Mrs Ileayns 2, Mrs Wilton 3. The competition for “something new from something old” (knitted), suitable for children, resulted: Mrs His'op 1, Mrs Wilton 2, Mrs I,amberton 3. These articles are to lie forwarded to the Lady Gahvav Guild for the refugees. A vote of thanks was accorded Misses Matthews. of Feilding. Afternoon tea was served hy the hostesses. Mesdames Ileayns, Comings, Blackler and Fraser.

.Mrs N. Christensen, of Wellington, was a. rerent visitor to Mr and Mrs W. D. R. Baker. Mr S. Sehrieber, who has been visiting Otorohanga and other northern districts, has returned home. Mrs 'Conks, of Wellington, was a visitor to her daughter. Mrs R. W. Humphrey, Mangoane Road. Mr and Mrs C. Petersen, Kai Iwi. have been spending a holiday with the former’s parrots, Mr and Mrs P. Petersen. Miss V. Petersen is with friends in Hastings. Mr and Mrs W. D. R. Baker’s daughter Beverley is progressing favourably after her recent accident, when she fell from a moving ear and sustained severe head injuries which necessitated her removal to hospital and the insertion of several stitches. Mrs Kelly, of Wellington, is visiting Mr and Mrs W. Tcohev. Mrs W. E. Baker is visiting her daughter, Mrs G. Walker, of Auckland.

The fortnightly card evening, run under the auspices of the Hall Committee, was affected by rough weather. The prizes which were donated by Mrs A. Wishnowskv and Mr A. E. Pearson were won as follow Ladies: Miss Schultz 1. Miss .f. Wishnowskv (sealed) : men’s, Mr W. D. R. Baker 1. Mr T. A. Shalders (sealed). Miss N. Wishnowskv and Mr W. D. R. Baker will bo in charge at the next evening. The proceeds were donated to the local Ixivs’ overseas fund.

A pleasant time was spent in the hall, the occasion being a welcome homo and presentation to Mr and Mrs R. Hills, who were recently married in Wellington. Daneing to music supplied by Mr Wright was enjoyed by the younger folk, while the nondancers enjoyed euchre. Ihe winners of this being Mrs Moray and Mr W. Reid. Novelty danres were won by: Lucky spot waltz, Mr and Mrs W. 1). R. Baker: statue waltz, Mr and Mrs R. Hills: lucky Gay Gordons. Mrs Hills and Mr W. E. Hills; Monte Carlo, Miss Gray and AJr H. Gray. To Mrs Hills, who was attired in a dainty frock of pale lavender taffeta, Mrs W. E, Baker presented a floral posy and asked their acceptance of a handsome tea wagon with the best wishes of all present: for their future happiness. Mr Hill suitably responded.
