SHOOTING SEASON OPENS

BAGS SMALLER THAN USUAL. Reports generally indicate that although the weather was ideal for the sport, the bags at the opening ol the duck shootitrg season to-day were not equal to those of last season, in most cases being about half. The rain which started this morning kept the birds low, hut they were not so plentiful. It is stated that military operations have scared the birds on the coast areas, and in addition, particularly in the Kairanga district, poachers have been, at work.
