RONGOTEA

(From Our Own Correspondent.l The late Mrs E. Wood, whose death has occurred at the advanced age of 84 years, was a much esteemed resident of Rongotca. Her homo was always notable as having one of the brightest little gardens in the district; throughout the year it was a well-known landmark, and no doubt tins enthusiasm for maintaining a constant display of gay flowers was one of the reasons why Mrs Wood kept such a keen interest in life and attained such a ripe age. She was, with her husband (who predeceased her sonic years ago) a foundation member of the Rorigotea Horticultural Society. Mrs Wood was born at Pondlebury, near Manchester. England, and left there with her husband and son about 39 years ago to come to New Zealand. She held n lifelong connection with the Methodist Church, and took a most active part in its work untd about twelve months ago. being the oldest member of the congregation. The funeral took place on Monday at the Rongotea cemetery, where she was laid to rest beside her husband. A service was hold in the church by Rev. C. M. Roberts, who also officiated at the graveside. The large attendance ■ and the many beautiful wreaths were striking evidence of the esteem in which the deceased lady was held. There arc left to mourn their loss one son—Mr David Sidney Wood, of Rongotea—and five grandchildren. Mrs R. Bleaklcy, of Fcilding, is a sister.
