Sealing of Crossing. The sealing of the Jvimbolton Road level crossing was commenced yesterday. Building Permits. Only one building permit was issued by the Feilding Borough Council last month, this being in respect of a small dwelling valued at £4OO. No cases of infectious disease were reported in the borough during April. Vital Statistics. Vital statistics registered at Feilding during the past month, with the figures for the corresponding month in 1040, are: Births, 24 (18); deaths, 4 (7); marriages, 7 (11). St. John’s Church. At the annual meeting of the parish-* ioners of St. John’s Anglican Church the following officers were elected: Vicar’s warden, Mr F. Mason; people’s warden, Mr G. W. Shrimpton ; vestry, Messrs G. Bon.ilace, P. B. Desmond, C. Hausmann, C. M. Sargisson, G. L. Ewen, H. Wilkins, S. Chesterfield, A. Funston, G. Smithers, H. A. de Lacey; synodsmen, Messrs C. Hausmann and J. G. Eliott.

Boy’s Injury. A boy, David Trcwhitl, of Denbigh Street, was picked up by a railway employee yesterday morning in Aorangi Street, having apparently fallen off his cycle. The boy, who was unconscious, was examined by a doctor and is believed to be suffering from concussion. Harriers.

The following harriers will take part in a three-mile pack run on Saturday: Whittaker, R. Evans, J. Haycock, L. Moore, 11. Moss, W. Madsen, L. Barrett, 11. Lynch, J. Duncan and D. Whittaker. Mallard Duck Plentiful. On the (lams anu on tho river hackwashes in the, Eeilding district mallard ducks are reported to bo fairly plentiful. One sportsman said the dry season had resulted in the ducks remaining on tho small dams, and good hags should ho secured oil opening morning. Jn the coastal areas, where there is aerial traffic, many of the ducks may have been disturbed and have probably flown inland to lakes and dams, but generally speaking the season should prove satisfactory.

i Women's Patriotic Work. Ail kinds ot comforts come within tliP range of tho selection when parcels aro being prepared for despatch to soldiers, sailors and airmen by tho Women’s Patriotic Committee whose work goes on incessantly and with commendable enthusiasm. Goods recently forwarded from Fcilding and district included a ease of comforts for the Air Force containing 13 pullovers, 14 hussifs, eight pairs mittens, three scarves, 15 balaclavas, one pair of pyjamas, two pairs of slippers, one pair of bedsoeks. parcel of hospital comforts and a parcel of nurses’ comforts. In addition to tins case, comforts for the Navy and minesweepers were contained in another case, as follow: —Three knitted bed covers, 11 pairs of mittens, seven • scarves, six pairs of socks, 14 balaclavas, eight polo-neck pullovers, 12 pairs of minesweepers’ gloves, two flannel shirts, with underclothing. Three cases of soldiers’ comforts were also despatched and these’ contained: 196 hussifs, 95 scarves, nine pairs of gloves, 56 balaclavas, 84 pairs of mlttcnes.

Patriotic Auction Sale. Donations of second-hand goods are solicited for the patriotic auction sale to be bold at, tho auction room, Feilding, on Friday, May 23. The proceeds are to be credited to the Patriotic _ Appeal Fund and residents or settlers in the district are requested to telephone No. 631. Home Guard. Members of the Feilding Battalion aro required to attend a general parade on Saturday afternoon at 1 o’clock, and D. Company (E.P.S.) is also (o take part. The parade will be held on the racecourse, and the object of calling it is to provide instruction in mass formation. At the conclusion of the review a march through the town will be held by the three battalions, music to he provided by the Municipal Band.
