NAVAL PATROLS
FAR OUT IN ATLANTIC. • AMERICA’S GESTURE. LONDON, April 29. The United States Chief of Naval Operations (Admiral Stark) revealed in Washington to-day that American naval patrols are already operating as far as 2000 miles out in the Atlantic.
’ j Admiral Stark said he understood > I that portion of the American schedule of naval production was ahead of the I programme. “We must share our re- ! sources to the limit of safety,” he iadded. ! The Russian newspaper Red Fleet says the expansion of the United j States patrols is proving of considerj able help to Britain. ! The Berlin newspaper Deutsche All - j gefneine Zeitung has issued a threat to sink American ships. “President j Roosevelt must know tiicre can he but one result of the aid to Britain—the ■quicksand certain sinking of American! I ships. Americans would do. well to j cherish no illusions.” ■ A Press Association message says: An I | unofficial report states that the United I j States Coastguard magazine said aj ! further transfer of armed American j I vessels to Britain is to be expected. I j It said that forty small cutters which | | the Wheeler shipyard at New York is i building for the Coastguard may go to ! Britain.
