Camellia Blooming. For about a week a camellia tree in Nelson Street lias been flowering, states a subscriber who read the paragraph in the “Manawatu Standard” relative to a similar tree flowering in •New Plymouth. Fire Board’s Finances. The Feilding Fire Board's satisfactory financial position lias enabled it to 'reduce the amount payable by the Borough Council annually by £25, an amount which a member, Mr A. C. McCorkindale, said at a meeting of the board on Monday, the council would appreciate. Tho board has also liquidated its indebtedness in respect of a loan, and commences the new financial year with a capital expenditure fund of £l5O in addition to a credit balance in the general working account. The efficiency of tho brigade, under the Superintendent (Air O. C. Sporle), has succeeded in keeping the fire loss down to £5. Referring to an incipient fire in a block of buildings in the business area, the chairman said that liad the lire developed many thousands of pounds’ worth of damage would have resulted, but the superintendent promptly traced the outbreak and dealt with it effectively.

Savage Club. At the annual meeting of flic Feilding Savage Club, held this week, Rangitira A. Hendry presided. A review of the year’s activities was made by Air Hendry who thanked the executive council and the ladies’ committee. Tribute was also paid to tho services of Savage Jones as secretary and to Savage R. W. H. Wood who had taken over when the former left the district. Shannon presiding, the balance-sheet, showing a e.rcdit balance of £39 17s 6d, was favourably commented upon. Officers were elected as follows: Patron, Air James Watt; president, Mr Shannon: vice-presidents, Alcssrs H. E. Harris, G. Cowan, H. G. Frankhauscr, X. J. Guylce, C. A. Spence; auditor, Air F. H. Billing; secretary, Air S. G. Fitzpatrick. It was decided to approach unit commanders of the Home Guard of the various centres in the snb-union lo try to come to an arrangement whereby daylight parades can be held fortnightly so that football can be played on alternate Saturdays.
