APPEALS HEARD

TERRITORIAL TRAINING. A sitting of No. 6A Man-Power Committee was held in Feilding to-day, Mr G. A. Monk presiding. With him wore Messrs W. G. Black and C. It. Murphy. Mrs E. S. Guy lee appealed for her son, Norman Guylce, farm manager, who served in the Great War, on tho grounds of public interest and undue hardship. Appellant said her son had no assistance on the farm. Air Worthington (for the Crown) said the reservist had been classed as temporarily unfit but was liable for Territorial training, and the parties concerned were expected to secure relief for shim during the period lie was m camp. ‘Reservist’s brother is serving overseas. The appeal was adjourned sine die. The appeal of Frank Arthur Chappell, mercer, was allowed on the grounds that appellant was not a member of the class called upTn the last ballot. Alls Al. F Young appealed for her only son, Albert Stanley Young, farm labourer, on grounds of public interest and undue hardship.— Adjourned till next sitting, appellant in the meantime to endeavour to obtain relief labour. William McKenzie, farmer, Apiti, appealed on the grounds of public interest and undue hardship. Appellant a returned soldier, stated he had seven brothers, and was conducting a large dairy farm. Adjourned sine die. On the grounds of public interest and undue hardship Messrs Burnc Bros., appealed on behalf of Leslie John Bttrne. —Adjourned siric die in accordance with a medical certificate. On similar grounds Airs Alary Gray, widow, appealed on behalf of her son, Frederick Walter Gray, farm manager. All C. E. Taylor, .who gave evidence, said no appeal had been lodged in respect of another son. —Adjourned sme die. An appeal by L. T. McLean in respect of A. Gordon Glassford, farm manager, was withdrawn on the application of Air O. E. Taylor. An appeal hv Tlios. Borlliwiclc and Sons (A-AsiaJ, Ltd., in respect of Ormond Willis Charles lligld, a slaughterman, was dismissed, flight not to be Ceil Icd upon before June 30. William Power, farmer, of Oolyton, appealed on the grounds of public interest and undue hardship. —Adjourned till next skiing of committee at Feilding. Appeals in respect of Alexander Scotland, stud stockman, and James Alexander Florence, labourer, and contractor, on the grounds of public interest and undue hardship were adjourned till the next sitting of tho commitlcco in Palmerston North. Decision was reserved in respect of an appeal by Larsen and Co. on behalf of Orlando Edward Larsen, fanner. Kenneth Oliver Tromain, farm hand, was appealed for by Thomas Iloskin Tromain, on the grounds of public interest and undue hardship, appellant staling he had Iwo sons serving with the forces and lie could not secure labour Decision was reserved. James Stack, shepherd, Stanway. appealed on the grounds of public interest and undue hardship. Ap-„ pcllant said ho was working for tho Manson Estate on an ioOO-acre farm at Sianway. Air Worthington read a letter from the manager of tho estate asking for appellant’s training to bo postponed. Air Cole (manager) in evidence said, provided another employee was not required to give service immediately, appellant could be# spared. The appeal was dismissed. Appeals made by tho Feilding Bacon Company, for postponement of service by Arthur F. Liddell, Clarence G. Fisher and Stacey Crichton, were withdrawn, Air Worthington stating that these men would not be needed for camp until June and by that time the season would be finished and tho men spared without disorganisation.
