MANAWATU UNION. Arrangements for flic initial matches of tho season, which are to bo on Saturday in the senior and junior grades, were made at a meeting of the management committee of the Alanawatu Rugby Union, last evening, Mr A. AI. Ongley presided and thcro were also present Alessrs G. Foster, 11. Clevely, R. Gillespie, J. Jingle, li. Palmer, J. R. Ilardie, K. G. Eglinton, AV. Carruthers and J. Gonlcy. Mr L. Alullins advised that he had entered camp for three months’ training and he was granted Icavo of absence. The City Council advised the conditions on which tho Sportsground oval might bo used for Rugby and the committee decided to accept these. Grants usually made by the union are to he listed and dealt with at the next meeting. “As the duties of tho brigade are seriously alfected by overseas enlistments, tho Emergency Precautions Scheme, tho .Home Guard and Territorial training, I wish to advise that tho Commissioner has approved of skilled St. John Ambulance nurses assisting tho .men with football duties, here,” stated a letter recoivcd from tho Alanawatu headquarters dish icl officer of tho St. John Ambulance Brigade. It was explained that in tho larger centres
trained nurses accompanied tho men and assisted when required.—'lhe offer was accepted. The charges for inter-club matches arc to remain tho same as last year’s, H>o Wellington Union is to lie written to, seeking a tentative inter-union match at Palmerston North on Juno 2. Tho following fixiuros for Saturday were approved, these including all the teams nominated in these grades: Seniors. —United v. Feilding and Old Boys, 3 p.m. No. 1 Johnston Park, Feilding, Air Holman; Old Boys v. St. Patrick’s, 3 p.m., Sportsgronnd, Air E. Jackson : Kia Toa win by default from University. Juniors.—Feilding v. Ilalcomhc, 1.20 p.m., No. 1 Johnston Park, Mr Dunn; United v. Kia Toa, 3 p.m., Rugby Park, Mr A. Gcndall; Bunnytliorpe v. St. Patrick’s, 2 p.m., Bunnytliorpe, Air R. Young: Old Boys v. High School, 1.30 p.m., Sportsgronnd, Air B. Holdsworth. Tho junior advisory board, is to consider tho conduct of the competitions in the throe lower grades, which are as follow : Thirds: Kia Toa, Old Boys, United, Feilding Old Boys, Feilding High School. High School and Feilding. Fourths: Kia Toa and St. Patrick’s. Fifths: Kia Toa, St. Patrick’s, Feilding High School, Technical High School.
