THE BIBLE IN CHINA

A welcome was extended to Mr W. J. Embery, home director for the China Inland Mission, at the Baptist Church last evening by the Manawatu Missionary Association. Rev. A. H. Finlay, who presided, greeted Mr Embery, who lias been connected with the mission for the past -10 years. The visitor spoke of the present need lor missionaries in China and said that there were great opportunities for them. In touching on the urgency of their work, he said that it was imperative to convert more Chinese a.s ilie Japanese were conquering more of the country and driving the Christians further west, also the Japanese were opposed to Christianity. Although the missionaries were being driven' further west more and more Chinese were becoming Christians, and it was encouraging to see their efforts bearing fruit. The mission could not produce enough Bibles in Shanghai, there was such a great demand for them.
