NEW ZEALAND ALLIANCE

PALMERSTON NORTH BRANCH. The annual meeting of the Palmcrston North brunch of the New Zealand Alliance was held last evening, Rev. J Hubbard presiding. The report and bal-ance-sheet were adopted, the former slating the year had been one of intensG activity; mention was made of the work undertaken relating to men of the Forces. The election of officers resulted:—President, Rev. J. Hubbard; vice-presidents, ministers accepting tho platform, presidents of the W.C.T.U. (Miss Jamicson), 1.0. R. (Mrs S. J. Northcy), Mcsdamcs E. 11. Carter, F. Kckcrsley, Furnoss and Messrso J. B. Gerrand. \V. Lyons, J. Ifollons, Furncss and Thompson, with representatives of Bible classes; secretary, Mr 11. Grinstead; treasurer, Mr F. Eckcrslev. ReV. C. T. Symons, M.A., youth director, in an address outlined the youth work in the Methodist Church on temper ance education. He slated that tho church had set up a temperance education coin, inittee consisting of representatives of each branch of youth work. The younger generation did not always agree with the older generation in the manner in which the work had been carried out, but the idea was to ascertain their point of view and bring them to a better understanding. A circular and a programmo had been prepared and these were in the form of a challenge to the younger members to set, what thev could" do. They would show them the" methods to be used, indicate a bibliography and graded literature, and then the different organisations they could approach to keep them. It was proposed to issue display material to Bible classes and Sunday schools, and it was hoped to produce small films and have them circulated among the churches and Sunday schools By this means the movement would bo extended and other churches might come in and make it a combined affair, thus making a wider appeal to he countrv. Films, including scenes of tho camp at the Palmcrston North Showgrounds were shown by Mr Symons, who was accorded thanks.
