Mr and Mrs A. T. Mitchell, who have been on holiday in Auckland, have returned home. Mr H. Godfrey has returned home from his holiday. The Anglican Church held its thanksgiving service on Sunday, when there was a handsome display of gifts. The service was conducted by Rev. A. J. Farnell. The Home Guard held a successful parade on Monday evening on the Recreation Ground, there being a large attendance. Under their commander they were put through very useful drill, alter which they retired to the hall, where an address w.'.s given by Colonel Closey on what the Guard would be called on to do if necessary. Rev. A. J. Farnell supplemented the remarks, impressing on the men to give every attention to the instruction given them.
