TRAINS HELD UP.
Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, March 24. Heavy and continuous rain since Saturday night has caused serious dislocation of road and rail traffic on the main north road, it being impossible to get through to Dunedin from Hampden. There was 3ft of water on the highway there at II o'clock. Owing to a slip on the Christchureh side of Hampden the north express could not get through, nor could buses bridge the gap. The passengers are being returned to Dunedin and the. express from Christchureh will be held ?-t O-amaru. Flood waters from the Kakanui River are across the road at Maheno and there is also a foot of water at Merton. A boulder from a hillside fell on the railway track between Waitati and Purakanui. A special goods train from Oamaru struck and split it. On the Taieri Riverside farmers are removing their stock, though the position is not yet acute.
