At the annual meeting of the Women's Institute Mrs .1. A. Faston was re-elected president. Mcsdames C Pcdersen and U. Hook vice-presidents, Miss M. Barber treasurer and Mrs M. l J arr secretary; the committee being Mcsdames Roberts, Caldwell, Thorne, J. Murray, Stern, S. Federsen and Andrew. 'I he president's report recalled a successful year of varied activities. Tho financial statement showed a healthy state of affairs with a comfortable balance of £l4 3s 9d in the general account and £5 3s 9d in the special soldiers' comforts account. It was resolved lo sf>nd forward the nomination of Miss Grant and Mrs Lancaster (Koputaroa) for the North Wellington Federation executive:. Delegates to tho federation's annual meeting are Mrs H. Fasten and Miss Barber. Betters of thanks were received from Trooper Robbie and Plo. (Jibbson tor gifts of cigarettes- presented at the recent soldiers' farewell. For the birthday party the programme and arrangements will be as in previous years. The action of the committee in making a gift of an eiderdown quilt to a «ick member, and the donation ol £2 each towards the funds of the two queens in the heart-to-heart carnival at present in progress, was approved. It was decided to forward a donation of £2 10s to the North Wellington Federation. The drama, circle finances are also in a healthy condition and the circle is reported to be rehearsing for its next public appearance It was resolved lo endeavour to got a speaker from the Women's War Services Auxiliary to address an institute meeting. A letter just received iroin London giving moving details of life under present conditions was read. Mrs Kdmonds outlined a scheme for procuring equipment for an emergency hospital under the E.P.S and asked for the assistance of members, notifying that a sewing circle would bo mst up. Mrs J. A. Easlon journeyed to Christ church last week-end to spend a few days near her son Peter, who is in Burnham Camp. Mrs C. Stem and Miss N. Eastou intend making the journey this week-end to sec their brother.

At a meeting of sports bodies a committee was set up to further the interests of the town and sports queen candidate. A date was set tor a '"crazy" sports meeting. The town and sports queen ladies' committee met on Thursday afternoon to receive the treasurer's report of progress and discuss details of future events. Tho financial position was considered very satisfactory to date, but the desired sum has still to uc reached, and no effort is to be spared lo bring the needs of the Hcarl-10-Heart Appeal (for which the carnival is being run) before the public. The house-to-house collection is almost completed. Winners at the Monday night card party were Mrs Radford and Mr Flutey. There was an encouraging attendance at the Sports Club's dance in the Druids' Hall, and there was an appreciable credit to hand to the town and sports queen fund.

The social and sale of goods following tho harvest festival, was held in the Presbyterian Church on Monday. Though there was oniy a small attendance a successful sale, resulted.

At a meeting of the R.S.A. executive tho secretary (Mr 11. Warman) reported that the branch had received letters of thanks for Christmas and other parcels sent to local men overseas, among them being Able-Seaman R. Cronquest, Lieut, W. Roach, Scrgt. E. Annesilcy, Pvtes. D. Hill, U. Gee, T. Sunley.'R. Batt, J. Robinson. N. Better, L. 11. Wisnosky, and 11. Warman. Pvtes. A. M. Robinson and S. Robbie expressed appreciation for the recent farewell gathering. It was resolved to send another batch of parcels, and a packing day was arranged. Ihe meeting expressed appreciation to Mr W. P. Harpur, commander of the Home Guard unit, for the interest he had taken in the movement.

The Borough' Council has received from the Director-General of Health a letter stating that it has been suggested that the Foxfon Borough be grouped with other small boroughs for the purpose of Palmerston North Hospital Board' representation. He asked if the council has any objection to the Foxton Boroughi being added to the combined district at present comprising the Shannon, Levin and Otaki boroughs. It was resolved to reply that the council has no objection to changing tho existing apportionment of representation.

Messrs J. A. Roach and J. Thomson are on a holiday visit to Napier.
