EMERGENCY PRECAUTIONS
(To tho Editor.)
Sir, —I notice that a meeting was held in the Council Chambers and a certain Emergency Precautions Committee was set, up. This meeting was, 1 understand, convened by Or. Tenneat; it was done by circular and'not by public notice. Why so S' What is going to happen to the other committees set up by His Worship the Mayor as the result of a public meeting? I think tile more correct method to have adopted was to convene a public meeting, explain the position, then disband the other committees and set up the precautions .committee. The ladies on the oid committees had no notice of this meeting and no say as to which or not the Women’s War Service Auxiliary should be in control of. The Women’s War Service Auxiliary ha 6 no more legal authority than the lied Cross, St. John Ambulance, or any other organisation. Wellington, Auckland and other leading centres set up their Women’s Emergency Precautions Committee because they thought it was necessary. Palmerston North already had a women’s organisation giving real good service, especially during the Maori camp at the Showgrounds, and now it is ignored. That i 9 not the proper method to use if the best results are required.—l am, etc.,
DISAPPOINTED. Palmerston North, 12-3-41.
