CANADIAN FORCES.
NAVAL EXPANSION. OTTAWA, Nov. 15. The .Minister for the Navy states that eight new naval vessels will be launched in Canada within the next eight days and construction is ahead of schedule. It is assumed that most or all are anti-submarine corvettes. The Minister of Defence said candidates for commissions in the Army in future must pass through the ranks. He added that lie was considering an extension of the 30 days training to four months. The shortage of equipment was one of the reasons for fixing the 30 days, but there were now prospects of increases enabling longer training. AMERICA’S PART. NEW ORLEANS, Nov. 15. The President (Mr Green) lias pledged the American Federation of Labour’s full assistance in the defence programme and in supplying war materials to Britain. Thirty converted armed yachts and tugboats averaging 100 tons are being assembled at Panama for patrol. The destroyers regularly stationed at Panama are remaining and may be augmented.
