INTERCESSORY SERVICE.

ASSEMBLY OBSERVANCE:^ An intercessory service was. held at St. Andrew’s Church yesterday afternoon, members of tne Presbyterian Church, who are in the city for tlie meeting of the General Assembiy, taking part. The Aloderktor. (lit. Rev. G. H. Jupp) presided, and the preacher was Very llev. T. H lloseveare, of Tauranga. The service opened with the. singing of the National Anthem, and the Aloderator pronounced the invocation, following which a reading of the Old Testament, Psalm 46, was given by the Mayor (Air A. E. Ala ns ford). The Moderator gave a reading from the' New Testament, Hebrews 11 verses 1-10, and 32 verses 2-12. The prayers were as follow: For the Church Universal, A 7 ery llev. G. Budd; for the Empire, the King, governments and our Allies, A r ery Rev. Dr. Dickie; for the soldiers, sailors, airmen and mercantile marine, Mr A. J. AlcEldowney; for the chaplains, doctors, nurses and spiritual 'ministries, Air T. I. Steele, for all nations (including enlightenment for our enemies), Rev. Dr. Alerrington; and for the peace of the world, Rev. J. E. Lopdell. Hymns appropriate to the accasion were sung. A solo, “0 Rest In the Lord,” was sung by Airs A. J. Tucker.
