At a meeting of the Manawatu I AVomen’s Patriotic Committee on Wed-j nesday the Mayoress (Mrs A. E. Mansford) presided- In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, Mrs Mansford congratulated the various branches on the way .in which they had carried out their work. The representative of the Patriotic Shop Committee (Mrs E. C. Barnett) reported that the gross takings since April 1, 1940, liad amounted to £IBBO, which was a weekly average of £63. The Lady Galway Guild representative (Mrs G. C. Petersen) stated that in eleven weeks 20 cases of articles! had been sent away for refugees ini Britain, making a total of 3315; articles. Mrs S. G. Northey stated that | the parcels' branch had sent 276 ordin-j ary parcels and 470 Christmas parcels overseas, and also 60 tins of biscuits to the Trenfham Military Camp hospital. Mrs K. fc>. Manning stated that in five months 1583 woollen articles had been made and sent to Wellington by the knitting and hussifs branch. Articles distributed to local soldiers numbered 84 ; theso articles - included hussifs, balaclaves, scarves, mittens and socks. In connection with the proposed flower day. it was unanimously decided to donate all the proceeds to the Heart-to-Heart Appeal for £1,000,000. Flowers prepared as buttonholes and sprays' or in bunches are to be sold on the streets, as well as seedlings, and paper badges are to be available for those giving cash donations above a fixed, amount. A sub-committee consisting of the secretaries and conveners of each of the sub-branches was formed for the purpose of completing arrangements for the flower day. (.
