ST. ANDREW’S GUILD.
GRANDMOTHERS’ DAY. There was a very large gathering in St. Andrew’s Memorial Hall yesterday afternoon, when the Ladies’ Guild held their annual grandmothers’ entertain-. nient. The hall was brightly arranged j with a variety of flowers, shades of 1 pink predominating, -Mrs J Galland being responsible for the decorations and for the fiofal sprays which were presented to the grandmothers and great-grandmothers. Mrs M. Aitchison presided and welcomed the visitors, among them being Mrs Johnson. The hostesses were Mesdames AV. B. Ten.nent, H. McEwen, J. G. AVingate, R. C. Donald, assisted bv Mesdames Robinson, Thomas, Drake, It. Hopwood, Misses Macaulay, Hopwood, Stewart (2) and Beattie. The programme opened with a oneact play produced by Mrs G. C. Petersen, those taking part being Mesdames R. C. Donald, It. L. C. Aitchison, E. Glendinning. Coutts. F. Opie, A 7 '. Gerrand and Miss M. McAulay. Violin solos were rendered by Mrs R. S. Law, accompanied by Mrs 1. Rickard, and songs by Mrs Searle, accompanied by Mrs It. lnkpen. At afternoon tea, a large cake, decorated in pink and gold, which had been made by Miss M. Millar, was cut by Mrs AV. Rutherfurd for the grandmothers. A smaller cake, iced in pink and white, and given by Mrs R. D. Knight, was cut lor the great-grand-mothers by Mrs S. Swan. Prizes were won by Mesdames M. R. McAulay (lucky spray), Swan (great-grand-mother" with the youngest great-grand-child), E. A. Collins (grandmother with the youngest grandchild). ,P. S. Stewart (most grandchildren), M. Koberstein (birthday), Roberts (grandmother furthest from home) and M. J. Thompson (oldest grandmother belonging to St. Andrew’s). Rev. J. Hubbard presented bouquets to Mesdames Aitchison, C. AVihiamson (secretary), N. Tily (treasurer) and Hubbard on behalf of the members. The programme concluded with songs by Donald Irwin, accompanied by Mrs Irwin. Thanks were expressed to Mr A. J. Graham (a greatgrandfather), who had given a box of chocolates to be shared among the grandmothers and great-grandmothers, j Mrs J. Murray thanked the entertainers and Mr 6 Galland for the flowers. and Mrs Aitchison thanked the hostesses and helpers, Mrs Knight and Miss Millar for the cakes, Mr and Mrs | Hubbard, and Mr A. AVylie (session j representative). Mr Hubbard thanked the grandmothers and great-grand- ! mothers for their support of the ! church, and asked them to pray for j the predominance of Christian ideals in the world to-day. Mrs Aitchison announced that the guild would go into recess until February. Mrs J. AA’allace, of Plimmerton, a former president who had been welcomed as a guest, expressed her thanks for the invitation to be present.
