GIFT OF EGGS.

PRODUCERS’ GESTURE. Per Press Association. WELLING I ON, Oct. 25. Owing to difficulties in obtaining suitable, shipping space only a limited quantity of eggs was exported to the United Kingdom this year, said the Minister of Marketing (Hon. W. Nash) to-day. Included in a shipment which had just left New Zealand, however, was a quantity of 20,000 eggs forwarded front the producers as a iree gift to the people of the United Kingdom. The gift of these eggs, which came chiefly from the Hawke's Bay district, was due mainly to the initiative and assistance of the Women’s Division, ot the Farmers’ Union and the Women’s Institutes. They will .be handed by the High Commissioner to the British authorities for free distribution among the lied Cross Societies, hospitals, or other kindred institutions. The indications were, added Mr Nash, that many more eggs would have been forwarded by the producers if suitable shipping space had been available, but it was not now possible to export further gifts of eggs this season.
