Mayor of Montreal. It is intimated in Ottawa that the former Mayor of Montreal (Mr Camillien Houdc) will retain his civil rights and he permitted to run in the December election, for which his candidature is announced. (Early in August Mr Houde was interned for his refusal to comply with the registration provision of the Mobilisation Bill. He was later released.) Anti-Jewish Decrees. It has been announced officially in I Beirut (Syria) that rlie anti-Jewish decrees of the Retain Government, which were recently applied to the French North African colonies, are now to be enforced throughout Syria. Embargo on Mercury. The Government of Mexico has placed an embargo on 200,000 dollars worth of mercury at present in Manzanillo awaiting shipment to Japan. The embargo also freezes another' shipment of the same amount for which Japan had contracted. „ Dublin’s Lights. Representations have been made to Eire to dim the blight lights of Dublin, which guide aircraft to Liverpool. Eire is also giving refugee to evacuees. This is said to have been instigated by Mr de Valera himself after the sinking of the City of Benares. Dutchman Sentenced. Zurich reports that a German courtmartial at Utrecht has sentenced a Dutchman to 18 months’ gaol for saying Queen Wilhelmina was more entitled to attention and respect than a German paperhanger.
