CRIPPLED CHILDREN

VISITORS ENTERTAINED. ■ The welfare committee of the Manawatu branch of the Crippled Children Society, with the co-operation of other organisations, was able to provide enjoyable entertainment and hospitality to a party of 19 club girls from the Wellington/ branch and seven from the Wanganui branch of the society, who visited Palmerston North for the weekend. The main purpose of the visit was to view the cherry blossoms at the Esplanade. Arrangements were excellently organised, due to the work of Airs W. G. Black as convener, with the co-operation of the Y.WiC.A., the younger set of the Red Cross, Girl Guides and members of the executive. Mrs May was in charge of the 'Wellington party and Aliss E. Aitken and Airs Rennie looked after the Wanganui party. Transport was provided on Saturday evening by the Younger Set, members meeting the children at the train aiid taking them to homes where they were billeted.

A most enjoyable programme was arranged for the children at the Y.W.C.A. rooms on Saturday evening. They were welcomed by Airs Black. Rita Robinson, secretary of the Palmerston North Girls’ Club, 11 members of which were present, presented posies to Aiesdames Black, C. A. Small (president of the Y.W.C.A. Board), Rennie (Wanganui), Alay (Wellington) and Miss AI. Jones, secretary of the Palmerston North Y.W.C.A. After the National Anthem items were given by the following;—Ann Williams (Hokowhitu Brownie Pack), dance; Earl Andrews, vocal solo; YAV.C.A. Girl Citizens, playetto ; ’Zoe Rabone, dance, Aliss Rosemary Small, piano solo; Takaro Girl Guides, country dance; Nurse Curry, poi dance; Joyce Lanksshear, song; Miss S. Page and her clever ette; Zoe Rabone, dance; Aliss Rosemary Small, piano solo; Takaro Gii’l Guides, country dance; Nurse Currie, poi dance. Aliss S. Page and her clever dog Peter provided further delight for the young visitors and items were also given by a group of girls from the Wellington 'Club. Airs J. Riddle assisted with ■ accompaniments and also played for community singing. Supper was served by members of the Y.W.C.A. Airs Alay and Aliss Aitken expressed thanks on behalf of. the visitors. Air AV. G. Black (chairman), Air G. G. Priest (secretary) and members of the executive were also present. A welcome was given to Reginald Dunford, one of the British children who recently arrived in New Zealand. Air Black drew lucky numbers, and prizes were donated by Airs F. Gowing. Lunch provided by members of the society yesterday was served at the Y.W.C.A. for all the girls and some of the hostesses. The tables were attractively decorated with scarlet tulips and coloured napkins. Alembers of tne Younger Set were hostesses at afternoon tea and then took the children for the drive through the Esplanade before they left for home.
