VALEDICTORY.

. A farewell party for their grandson, Private G. Barclay, before his going into camp, was given by Mr and Mrs C. F. Curtis, of Victoria Avenue. About 25 guests were received by Mrs Curtis, who wore navy striped georgette.' The time was spent in playing games, the winner of a competition being Mrs S. Barclay. A military kit was presented to the guest of honour. An informal gathering took place at the home of Mrs K. S. Manning, Ferguson Street, to farewell Mr B. Tremaine, who left for Trentham Camp today. The Mayor and Mayoress (Mr and Mrs A. E. Mansford) were present and the former presented a parcel of woollen comforts to Mr Tremaine on behalf of . the knitting and hussifs branch of the AVomen’s Patriotic Committee, conveying the good wishes of the members. Mr Tremaine expressed his thanks. The branch has made several similar presentations to local men joining the forces.
