PARCELS FOR TROOPS.

WOMEN’S COMMITTEE

A meeting of the parcels branch of the Women’s Patriotic Committee was held in the City Council Chambers yesterday afternoon, Mrs S. G. Northey presiding. Among those present were Mesdames A. E. Mansford and W. H. Galbraith, president and secretary, respectively, of the Patriotic Committee, and Mrs L. Wood, secretary of the branch. A letter was received from Mrs W. Cook, apologising for her absence due to illness and undertaking to contribute financial support. She enclosed a donation of £5.

The convener reported that £7 9s 6d had been received through the competition for a shawl erven by Mrs Sergeant, £4 being obtained through the C. M. Ross Co. The secretary was asked to convey the thanks of the branch to the C. M. Ross Co. and Messrs Garner and Nurse Kearns, for displaying the shawl; Mrs C. Speight, for the gift of a doll’s furniture set; Mrs J. Puklowski, for an evening bag; and Mrs Meadley, for a cushion for competitions. Mrs Northey reported that the funds in hand amounted to £321 6s 4d, and £195 6s 4d would be left after the Christmas parcels were paid for. She thanked all the helpers for their work during the month. Mrs S. A. Orr put forward a suggestion that a flower day be held in aid of the Patriotic Committee, the parcels branch to get half of the proceeds, the knitting branch one-quarter and the Lady Galway Guild one-quar-ter. This was discussed in detail and suggestions made. It was decided to hold the dav and to make it a special effort. The drawing of the order and other competitions was held over tor audit purjioses and the results will be announced in due course. The sum of £9O was raised from competitions held during the month.
