SALVATION ARMY.
Last evening, in tho Railway Hall at Milson’s Line, 60 children of the Salvation Army’s outpost Sunday school were entertained by Mrs 1 enkoth and her teachers at a banquet 1 to celebrate the completion of fifteen years’ activities. Major and Mrs Dick, D.Y.P.S.AI. Underwood and Mrs Underwood (City), Adjutant Christopher and Cadet Edmonds (Terrace Eud> were invited guests, several of whom spoke congratulatory words to Mrs Penketh and the teachers, whose unfailing interest and hard work have made the Sunday school a vital force in the district. The tables were tastefully decorated with large bowls of autumn toned Iceland poppies and birch leaves. Pride of place was given to a large iced birthday cake, decorated in unique style with fifteen gilt wish-bones. This cake was divided amongst the children and guests. At the conclusion of the banquet a short programme presided over by Adjutant Christopher was contributed by the Milson children, assisted by children and friends from the centre. Miss P. Tongs was a capable pianiste. A humorous dialogue caused some merriment and the children’s items were all commendable. Mrs Penketh and her workers deserve the highest praise for their fine service among the young folk, and for all their efforts which made the function such a success. Mr J. Teague (a teacher) was specially thanked for the use of his car to carry the teachers to and from the centre every Sunday. Birthday telegrams and letters were read by Major Dick.
