AMATEUR RIDERS’ RACE.
DOCTOR DEFOE HEATS FAVOURITE Doctor Defoe won the Gentlemen Riders’ Handicap from a strong favourite in Cherry Plum after being well placed over most of the journey. The race provided a good finish, with three horses fairly close to the winner. Golden Memory went to the front from Cherry Plum and Tigreterre at the start, but Doctor Defoe moved up to join the leader with seven furlongs to go. With three furlongs left’ Royal Pageant moved into third place and turning for home the order was Doctor Defoe, Gol4en Memory, Royal Pageant and Cherry Plum The last-named made a run past the others, but failed to catch Doctor Defoe by half a length, Golden Memory being a head away third.
