USE OF PETROL.
DISCUSSION BY FARMERS. On the grounds that the matter was outside the orbit of their interests, delegates to a meeting of the Manawatu provincial executive of the 1‘ armors’ Union, yesterday, took no definite action in regard to tile following remit from the Levin branch, referring it back to the sponsors: “That the° Levin branch of the Farmers’ Union support the New Zealand Motor Trade Federation in its request to the Government tor an increase in the general allowance of petrol.” Mr C. E. AVebb, in speaking to the remit, said'that it now appeared that some purchases of petrol came within the sterling bloc, and this did not affect purchases in America of war materials. The president (Mr H. J. McLeavey) remarked that the farmers were well treated in securing petrol for agricultural purposes. AA’hen it was shown that the petrol was needed for production it was forthcoming. That, lie thought, was as far as the farmers’ direct interests went. The Motor Trade Federation could well look after its own interests. RATIONING BASE. The following figures illustrate the difference between the petrol allowance in gallons for New Zealand. Great Britain and the Commonwealth : Class. N.Z. U.K. Aust.
The figures for Great Britain are taken from the Motor of June 5; the Australian figures are extracted from the bulletin of the Australian Liquid Fuel Control Board.
