DECREASE IN COLLECTIONS. The amount of sales tax collected in Juno (£327.482) showed a decrease of £3361 below the total for May, and also a decrease of £IO,OIO as compared with June, 1939, reports the Government Statistician. Receipts for the first six months of the current vear totalled £1,733,919, as compared with £1.857,614 in the corresponding period of 1939 and £1,676,919 in a similar period of 1938. . , Although the rate of sales tax was raised from 5 per cent, to 10 per cent, as from June 28, 1940, the effect of the increase will not be apparent until the amount of the August collection is available, as collections in any one month arc mainly in respect of transactions effected in the preceding month.
