(From Our Own Correspondent.) LONG BURN, Aug.. 20. The annual school hall was an outstanding success. The hall had been decorated for the occasion and was filled to capacity. Tho children held the floor till 9.20 p.m., when the adults continued the dancing. The children’s programme included patriotic numbers as well as folk dances. After the supper interval, Mr J. Callesen, chairman of the School Committee, spoke of tho careful training evident in tho children’s numbers; great credit was duo to the staff, Mr W. J. Barham (headmaster) and Miss I. Reeve (assistant teacher), and Miss Macfarlano (infant mistress) who supplied the music for the pupils’ dances. Dainty posies were presented to the lady teachers and tho wives of the committeemen. The prizes for tho pupil selling the most tickets were awarded to Joyce Sayles and Jean Stephensen. , The music for the adults’ dancing was supplied by a professional orchestra and Mr N. Woodill was' M.C. The Monte Carlo waltz was woV, by Air E. Conway and Airs N. Woodilif Miss K. Hill, of Rongotca, has been stay^ : ing with Miss D. Oke. Mrs Whyman. of Lower Hutt, is the guest of Mrs C. ICennard. Mrs Styles has been visiting her parents at Havelock North. Telegraphist A. Bell, of H.M.S. Achilles, is staying with his aunt, Mrs G. Bell, of Karcro Read. Miss Macfarlano is spending the school vacation with her parents ac Ohau.
