(From Our Own Correspondent.) SHANNON. Aug. 7. Present at the Borough Council meeting on Tuesday evening were the Mayor (Air G. Butt) and Crs. A. E. Hyde, \V. Clayton, J. A. Roach, R. K. Downes, 11. Farquliar, civil engineer, Palmerston North, forwarded a diagram showing the proposed subdivision of lots 298 (fronting Vance Street) and 313 (fronting Graham Street) The council approved of this. One building permit was granted. A request from the School Committee for a load of metal to he placed at the school gales was granted. Correspondence was received from the National Council with regard to the reclamation of waste materials. The matter was left to the town clerk to deal with. The secretary of the New Zealand Library Association forwarded for the 'council's information a pamphlet' setting out the case for a free library service. Consideration will be given this matter at a later meeting. The library committee reported that 350 new books had been acquired and one parcel of books had been i sprit to the War Library Service, Wei- ! liugton. i Home ori leave at present arc Privates N.
