PATRIOTIC WOMEN.
WOOL COMMITTEE. The wool (knitting and hussifs) branch of the Palmerston North Patriotic Committee met in the Mayoress s room at the Council Chambers this afternoon. The Mayoress .(Mis A. E. Mansford) was in tile chair, m association with her being the,president of the branch (Mrs lv. fe. Manning). , , , t A vote of thanks was.-, accorded the retiring secretary (Airs L. R. Evans) and Mrs E. W. Drake, who had taken over the secretarial duties. Mrs Mansford reported that a pair of pyjamas had been given by Mr T. Simpson and a folding chair bv the committee of the Red Cross and St. John Ambulance to raffle for the wool committee. Mrs Manning reported that books were available for a number or small raffles. . It was also reported that 396 balaclavas, 108 scarves, 179 pairs of mittens, 42 pairs of gloves and 179 hussifs had been sent forward to Wellington. The balance of goods in hand at July 31 consisted of 12 balaclavas, 12 scarves. 35 pairs of mittens, 3 pairs of gloves and 150 hussifs. Mrs Mansford stressed the need for carrying on the work, as no one knew wlfat the future might bring, and work would be still necessary after the war when all nations would need help. The secretary was asked to write to the shop committee expressing thanks for the arrangements made at the shop for the wool committee. Mrs Manning reported that there had been no expenses during the month. Mrs Mansford commenting that the previous month’s accounts had been very low. Tt was reported that safety pins, py.iama buttons and needles were required. A vote of thanks was accorded Mrs Mansford for presiding.
