Later, he started farming in the Taranaki district, at Okato, where lie is still remembered with esteem as a man of the highest principles, and also for the valuable services he rendered for the progress of that district. In 1910 Mr slctcalfe came to Bainesse, which has seen many changes since that time, there being no school and no dairy company in those days, and he was instrumental in establishing both, besides taking a very active part in ail affairs which helped in the progress of this district. , The late Henrv Hulbert sfetcalfe, A. 51.1 C E., of Auckland, and the late John sletcalfe, of the legal firm of sfctcalfe, Hussey and Hulbert. A well-deserved tribute to the late Mr 51etcalfo appears in the annual report of the directors of the Bainesse Dairy Coy., which states- “It is with feelings of a personal Joss to every member of the company that we learn of tho passing of Mr A. H. sletcalfe, whose earliest association with the factory commenced in 1910, under proprietary interests; later ho was a director of the 51anawatu Dairy Coy., and for the past twenty-one years he served this company, for five as chairman and sixteen as a director. He gave of his best to further the interests of both the factory and the district. 13v his death wc have lost a pioneer whose integrity and uprightness of character were beyond question, and to whom the ‘present standing of the company is in no small measure due for his guidance in tho early years. To 51 rs 'Metcalfe and the members of the family we extend at this time our very sincere and heartfelt sympathy.”
